Tom's Approach to Caring for Trees and Shrubs

Tom has climbed some of the biggest trees in the county, and has done his share of large tree take downs. These days he specializes in skillfully caring for trees and shrubs to bring out their natural beauty.

Pruning-Trees
Often home owners are concerned about a tree's health, or a tree's branches are too close to the roof. Large trees may have broken or dead limbs need to be removed. Apple, pear, and other fruit trees can quickly get very heavy, and need to be carefully thinned out before their fruit emerges. Each species of tree and shrub is unique and Tom will evaluate their health and provide you with his recommendations for care. He does not use a chipper or a bucket truck, instead he loads branches on his truck. Large tree removal and spraying is best done by other local tree companies.

Pruning-Shrubs
Bringing out the natural beauty of plants is Tom's goal by bringing in more light and air to established shrubs while not making dramatic changes to the outside shape. Whether you have a yew, rhodedndron, or azalea he will make them look beautiful.

Fertilizing Trees and Shrubs
Evergreen trees and shrubs can benefit from being fertilized, as can other trees and shrubs if their leaves are pale or turning brown early. Tom will select the appropriate fertilizer, and introduce the mix into the soil using a thin metal bar to create holes in a concentric circle around your tree or shrub. This allows the fertilizer to combine with the rain water or sprinkler and seep down so the roots can get the nourishment. Using this basic technique has revived many trees who have needed this extra care.

Cabling
Using metal cables and hardware Tom can install a cable in tree limbs that need this benefit. He has done cabling from many years, and found that when installed at the proper height and angle it can offer an added level of support. Usually cabling is done in conjunction with taking off significant weight from the tree.

Ivy Removal from Trees
Using specialized Japanese tools Tom has an approach to removing ivy from trees. This brings in the light and air so that your tree can flourish again, and not continue to be used as a trellis by unwanted ivy or vines.

Root Growth
When Tom evaluates your trees and shrubs at an estimate he will also be looking at the tree or shrubs' roots to make sure they look stable. From time to time he discovers a girdling root that needs to be removed

Healing After Storm Damage
Working in storm damaged trees can be the most difficult type of tree work. After removing all of the fallen and hanging tree limbs, and that work is completed, Tom can shape the remaining trunk bark with wooden chisles so that the area can heal more quickly.
